My experience using the cash stuffing method! Starting my journey!

Hello guys!

This is my first post on cash stuffing! You can find all sort’s of Youtube videos on Cash stuffing. I first started watching this video whilst I was eating my dinner after a long day at work. I wanted to get a better grips on my financial situation and this looked like a fun way to do it!

Just a background on me, I am currently on a low-income hourly salary. I wanted to start making mini savings for my future wedding, trips, and any emergencies. My first goal is was to save up £500 for a wedding dress! I know I could find a cheaper wedding dress however I just wanted to save this much money so I could play around in which dresses I would like!

I started looking at how to store the cash first! I watched endless videos and saw that a cash binder was a great way to start!

You can find really cheap binders that look cute also! I got my A6 budget binder from Amazon for £7.99. I am sure you can find cheaper ones depending on what binder is great for you!

After I received my binder, it came with stickers where I could place each category on each envelope! I put the essentials such as bills, groceries, beauty! Once you become really used to the binders its great to create a binder for your everyday needs for the week such as Groceries, nights out and so forth. One for long-term such as Christmas, dental, birthdays, weddings etc. It’s really up to you!

When I started this method, I started very small. I would maybe just do what I need for the week. So I took out £100 in cash. Allocated £15 for Travel, £30 for Groceries and so on. This really helped me keep track of my money as I realised that using your debit card it can be hard to keep track when it is so easy to swipe on anything.

A downside to cash is that everything especially in 2025 London most supermarkets have a self-checkout which only take card or some stores only take card. Make sure you give yourself enough research and time to know how you can use your cash. If it’s travel in London, you can buy an Oyster card to top up cash at TFL machines at the beginning of your week. Trust me it will all be worth it in the end!

At the end of the week you will be surprised at how much you might need to stretch out your money according to your needs for that week or how much you actually did not spend once you started using cash. You might even have cash roll over for the next week! Any cash that rolls over it is always exciting to see how much you can put towards something that you really wanted!

I have yet to master in depth the cash stuffing method but I think just even getting a binder, starting one week with a certain budget in cash and allocating to all your needs for the week, you can really see where your money is going!

I will write another post on how my cash stuffing is going but I hope this helps to anyone wanting to start this to help track their money and savings even if for now it is short-term and just experimenting on what works for you!
